Day 4 Prelim All-Star: Duncan Scott With Two Dynamite Swims

2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES

Great Britain’s Duncan Scott was the clear winner of prelim ‘all-star’ here on day 4, with what have to be considered the two best swims of his career.

Scott started off with breaking an eight year-old British record in the 100 free prelims, qualifying 3rd for the semi-finals out of one of the early heats. His swim of 48.01 broke Simon Burnett‘s record of 48.20 from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and also improved his own Scottish record of 48.66 set at the British Olympic Trials in April.

Scott wasn’t done there, anchoring Great Britain’s 800 free relay to top spot this morning with a 1:45.05 leg, the fastest in the field.

Both swims are drastic improvements for Scott from the British Trials, where he swam best times of 48.66 and 1:47.28 in both events.

It’s too late to speculate now, but had Scott qualified in the individual 200 free he could have been a player for the medals, with the silver and bronze medals being won in 1:45.20 and 1:45.23. Fellow Brit James Guy was 4th in that race in 1:45.49.

Guy will join Scott in the relay tonight, as the Brits will look to upset the Americans for the second straight year.
