Baltimore Ice Cream Shops Creates Michael Phelps Ice Cream

American swimmer Michael Phelps may have moved his budding family to Arizona a year ago, but he is still a favored son of Baltimore, the Charm City, where he was born, raised, and has lived for most of his 31 years on earth. Through his final meet with club representation, the U.S. Olympic Trials, Phelps still represented the north Baltimore Aquatic Club, even though he was living and training in Tempe.

And so as Baltimore debates an honor for of their greatest-ever athletic heroes with a statue (made of bronze, ironically), a local ice cream shop called the Charmery has given him different recognition – one that will make swimmers hearts, and stomachs, happy.

Phelps Phlapjack Gold ice cream is the company’s new featured flavor. It’s a chocolate chip pancake-flavored ice cream, in honor of Phelps’ breakfast habits that made the circuits in 2008 and included 3 chocolate chip pancakes – with Pete’s Grille having been held up as his go-to for the treat.

“That people get to come in and experience Olympic gold in ice cream form is pretty amazing,” said Charmery co-owner Laura Alima in an interview with Baltimore Magazine. They’ve produced 30 gallons of the ice cream, which went on sale Thursday, and will have it until it sells out.

The Charmery has a live webcam that shows their ever-rotating array of live flavors, so check in to make sure it’s still available before heading over.

Phelps has again called it a career after the 2016 Olympic Games’ swimming portion wrapped up last Saturday. If that truly was his last meet, he’ll retire as the most decorated swimmer and Olympian of all-time with 28 total medals and 23 gold medals.

I think that is good for there to be something to represent Phelps in his hometown because he is hero for many people even if he had some mistakes in his life.
