Clay Youngquist to Coach at the University of the Pacific

The University of the Pacific Tigers have officially announced that they will be adding Clay Youngquist to their swimming program. Youngquist has decided to retire from his competitive swimming career and will be joining the Tigers as an assistant coach.

Youngquist swam for the University of Texas for five years, winning several titles as part of the team. During his career with Texas, he won Big 12 titles in the 200 free as well as the 400 and 800 free relays. In addition to Big 12, he won NCAA titles in the 400 and 800 free relays. He was also named an All-American 11 times.

In 2014 Youngquist was named to the US National Team. He competed in the 100 free, 200 free and 400 free for the United States. He also swam at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Trials.  In 2015 he won two golds and one silver at the World University Games.

Youngquist will join the Tigers program headed by coach Peter Richardson. Youngquist will be involved with both the men’s and women’s teams. He will continue a family tradition of coaching when he joins the Tigers. His mother was a coach at Lakeview Aquatic Club in Lakeview, Michigan.

In addition to Youngquist, Katelyne Herrington will also join the Tigers as an assistant swim coach. Herrington is a former swimmer of UNLV, holding the Mountain West record in the 100 fly. Prior to joining the University of the Pacific, she was the swimming director of operations at the University of New Mexico.
