NC State Picks Up Verbal from Ohio Record-holder, Luke Sobolewski

Cincinnati, Ohio’s Luke Sobolewski has elected to spend the next four years at North Carolina State University and made his verbal commitment to the coaching staff today.

“NC State has great academics and an excellent coaching staff! The team atmosphere made me feel at home; I am very excited to join the Wolfpack!”

Sobolewski is a senior at Saint Xavier High School, the Division I champions of the 2016 Ohio State High School Boys’ Swimming and Diving Championships. Sobolewski was the individual champion in the 100 100 fly (48.57), was runner-up in the 100 back (48.75), split a 21.44 fly on Saint Xavier’s medley relay that broke a 16-year-old record by .8 seconds in finals, after having tied it in prelims. He also led off the 400 free relay with 46.67 in prelims.

At NSCA Spring Championships, he finished 8th in the 100 back, 8th in the 200 back, 12th in the 50 back, 16th in the 100 fly, and 40th in the 200 fly. Plus he split Split 20.74 on the 200y free relay and 21.50 on the fly leg of the 200y medley relay.

At Speedo Junior Nationals this summer, Sobolewski swam 200 free, 100/200 back, and 100 fly, finaling in the latter. His best performances came on relays: he split 52.47 on CM’s 400 free relay, and 55.70 doing fly on the medley.

Those are some major improvements over the last few years. Can’t wait to see what he does in college.
