Greensboro to Host 2017 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships

The Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center for the second season. The hosting capacity comes as part of a seven-year contract with the facility passed last year.

The meets will take place on February 15th through the 18th for the women and February 22nd through 25th for the men.

This is the second year running that the University of North Carolina has hosted the conference championships, and the final year of UNC’s contract will be 2022.

Last year’s ACC championships went to the North Carolina State men and the University of Virginia women. Both teams performed hit the top five at NCAA Championships, taking an with the NC State men scoring an overall fourth and the Virginia women taking an overall fifth.

Virginia’s Leah Smith will be the headliner of the conference. She currently holds more individual NCAA records than any other swimmer, with marks in the 500 (4:30.37), 1000 (9:20.15), and 1650 (15.23.30) freestyles (although a certain incoming Stanford swimmer will likely take those marks down). Smith is also coming off her first Olympics, where she scored a gold medal in the 4 x 200m freestyle and a bronze in the 400m free.
