Distance Freestyler Peyton Quattlebaum Commits to Longhorns

Houston Swim Club’s Peyton Quattlebaum has made a verbal commitment to swim for the University of Texas beginning with the 2017-18 season.

“I chose Texas because when I stepped on campus and met the team and coaches it felt like home. I love the positive energy the team has and how they encourage each other to be the best they can possibly be.  I’m so excited and honored to be a part of a team that is striving to be not only better athletes but people as well. Hook em!”

Quattlebaum excels in the 200-1650 range of freestyle events. At the NCSA Summer Championships she placed second in the 800m free, third in the 400m free, and 19th in the 200m free. In addition to achieving best times in all those events, she dropped 4/10 in the 50m free. At the NCSA Spring Championships, she finished eighth in the 1650y free, 27th in the 800m free, and 24th in the 400m free.

In short course yards her best times are:

  • 200 free – 1:51.79
  • 500 free – 4:49.81
  • 1000 free – 9:57.59
  • 1650 free – 16:33:04

Quattlebaum’s best 1650 time would have placed third at the 2016 Big 12 Championships, while her 500 time would have come in fourth. She will join a stellar Longhorn mid-distance and distance free group that includes Joanna Evans, who won both the 500 and 1650 as a freshman last year, and her classmate Quinn Carrozza.

Quattlebaum will head to Austin next fall with fellow-commits Evie Pfeifer and Victoria Edwards, also prospective members of the University of Texas class of 2021.

Schooling certainly could help with a few under the table scholarships! It has been done before at a certain SEC school
