3-Time Delaware High School Champ Matt Otto Gives Verbal to Virginia

Matt Otto, a senior at Salesianum School in Wilmington, Delaware, has elected to swim at the University of Virginia for the next four years, and has made his verbal commitment to the coaching staff.

“UVA is everything I wanted in a school, from the outstanding education to the driven team atmosphere and dedicated and inventive coaches. I truly believe Virginia is the best place for me to achieve my athletic and academic goals, and I can’t wait for the next four years! Go Hoos!”

Otto is the two-time DIAA Swimming & Diving state champion in the 100 breast (2015 and 2016) and the 2016 champion in the 500 free. In addition to his two individual titles this past season, he helped elevate Salesianum to the top overall team ranking with his 25.30 breast split on the 200 medley relay and his 22.55 split on the 200 free relay.

He swims year-round for Delaware Swim Team under Pablo Marmolejo, and among other things this past season, was runner-up in the 200 breast at 2015 Winter Junior National East.

Otto’s best times, and his year-over-year improvements, are noted below:

  • 500 Free: 4:32.79 (-5.2)
  • 1000 Free: 9:28.50 (-5.3)
  • 1650 Free: 15:43.51 (-1:10)
  • 100 Breast: 55.18 (-2.2)
  • 200 Breast: 1:58.27 (-6.7)
  • 100 Fly: 50.73 (-3.0)
  • 200 Fly: 1:52.55 (-6.3)
  • 200 IM: 1:52.97 (-0.6)
  • 400 IM: 3:57.52 (-3.3)
