USC All-American Swimmer Evan Swenson Changes Sports For Senior Season

USC All-American Evan Swenson is missing from the swimming roster, but you can still catch her competing in the pool for the Trojans this NCAA season. Swenson, a member of USC’s 4th place 200 free relay at last year’s NCAA meet, will forego her senior season of swimming, opting for 2 years of water polo elligibility instead.

Prior to her collegiate swimming career, Swenson was a multi-sport athlete in high school, competing in swimming, water polo, and basketball. It wasn’t until 2012 that she became a competitive year-round swimmer, knowing that she wanted to swim in college.

As a swimmer at USC, Swenson has qualified for NCAAs in each of the last 3 seasons, earning All-American status as a part of the Trojan’s 200 free relay in 2014 and 2016. She was also an individual NCAA qualifier in 2015, placing 37th in the 50 free and 18th in the 100 free.

At the conferrence level, Swenson was a part of the USC squad that won the program’s first-ever women’s Pac-12 Championship title last season. She was a 3-event scorer at that meet, placing 14th in the 50 free, 20th in the 100 breast, and 16th in the 100 free.

While the Trojan sprint group has holes left by Swenson and Kasia Wilk, who completed her senior season in 2016, they have a loaded freshman class coming in. Among the newcomers stepping up to fill those roles are Stanzi Moseley and Louise Hansson, two of the top sprint talents to come out of their recruiting class.

Since she is a pretty good sprinter, I will assume she will do the sprinting for the ball of each water polo matches? 🙂
