Caitlyn McHugh, a senior at Allatoona High School in Acworth, Georgia, has verbally committed to the University of Nevada, Reno for 2017-18 and beyond.
“I love how beautiful the campus is and it’ll be neat training at elevation. I’m incredibly excited about their science programs, I think I want to be a wildlife ecology and conservation major. A major draw to this university is that I will be so much closer to my family on the west coast, it’s just my parents and me on the east coast and family is really important to me. Head coach Brendon Bray seems not only incredibly passionate about the sport but incredibly passionate about the individual as well and I can’t wait to work with him.”
McHugh was the runner-up in both the 200y free and 500y free at the 2016 GHSA 1-5A State Swimming & Diving Meet. She finished .7 out of first in the 200 with 1:50.18, and .14 back in the 500 with 4:53.24. She also anchored both Allatoona’s free relays (a 24.13 in the 4×50 and a 51.84 in the 4×100).
McHugh swims year-round for the Stingrays. She had an excellent meet at the 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors East, scoring in the 500 free (20th) and 1650 free (11th), and earning lifetime-bests in the 200/500/1650. She finished the season on a strong note with strong performances at the Atlanta Futures Championships, picking up PBs in the 200 and 1500 freestyles. Her best times are:
