Brian McKenrick, Jonah Staton Verbally Commit to Army West Point

The Army West Point men have picked up 2 new commitments, with verbals from Brian McKenrick and Jonah Staton. McKenrick, who swims club for the Upper Main Line YMCA in Pennsylvania, will make the move to West point after graduating from Conestoga High School. Staton, a swimmer for the Jeffco Hurricanes, will be coming to West Point from Standley Lake High School.

Brian McKenrick

McKenrick brings immediate scoring potential to the table, with best times that could score points in both backstrokes and the 200 IM. His 100 back time would’ve earned him a 2nd place finish at the 2016 Patriot League Championships, and his 200 back would’ve had him in the top 8.

McKenrick’s Top Times

Event Best time
100 Back 48.41
200 Back 1:48.51
100 Breast 58.25
100 Fly 49.21
200 IM 1:50.38

McKenrick’s backstroke training group at West point will include Patriot League top 8 backstrokers Matt McPheters, Michael Stanchi, and Josh Sembrano. He’ll also train alongside IMer Jay Yang, who finished 5th in the 200 IM at conference last season as a freshman.

Jonah Staton

Staton’s times in the 400 IM and distance free races could make him an immediate 3-event scorer at the Patriot League Championships. His 400 IM and 1650 free are already good enough to have placed him in the top 16 last season, and his 500 free time is just shy of what it took to make the top 16.

Staton’s Top Times

Event Best time
400 IM 4:03.81
1650 Free 15:57.54
500 Free 4:35.98
200 Fly 1:55.55
200 IM 1:56.10

At West Point, Staton will get a chance to train with an Army distance group that includes Thomas Ottman, who placed 2nd in the 1650 at the 2016 Patriot League Championship as a freshman.
