Jake Tapp Joins Wisconsin Badgers’ Coaching Staff

After just one year as an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico former Canadian Olympian Jake Tapp has resigned to take a similar role with the University of Wisconsin men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams.

“I chose to apply for the position for the great opportunity it offers me to coach with a high caliber swimming & diving team,” Tapp told SwimSwam. “Not to mention the big ten is a power conference.”

Since joining the Lobos coaching a lot has changed.Last year Tapp was hired by Kunio Kono who stepped down from the Head Coaching position June, a position that has taken over by Dorsey Tierney-Walker.

Now Tapp will be joining a Badgers team that is lead by Head Coach Whitney Hite who was one of his coaches at the University of Arizona. He will move from coaching a Lobos squad that competes in the Mountain West to a team that is in the incredibly competitive Big Ten conference that includes Michigan, Indiana and Ohio State.

Being able to coach in the Big Ten is something that Tapp found very attractive, “I am looking forward to the aggressive schedule, to work with a high caliber coaching staff as well as the chance to compete for the top spots in the big ten as well as NCAA.”

He’s just going to add to the dominanance that Wisconsin has with backstroke. They seem to get all the potential they can out of all their swimmers. Great program.

Yeah it will be really interesting to see how the team does this year because the talented recruiting classes have had time to develop. I could see the badgers being a top 15 team at NCAAs this year.
