The annual Show-Me Showdown invites all Missouri schools at any level who host swimming and diving programs to compete at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The Missouri Tigers easily dominated the 2016 high school format competition, taking the top finish in all events on the women’s side and nine of twelve events for the men.
Hannah Stevens was Mizzou’s only double event winner, taking the 100 yard freestyle in 50.95 and the 100 back in 54.79. The most outstanding swim of the day was Katharine Ross who turned in a 1:00.97 for the 100 breaststroke, which is the top time in the nation so far. Other event winners for the Lady Tigers were Rachel Hayden (200 free- 1:50.53,) Sharli Brady (200 IM- 2:03.60,) Madeleine Gehrke (50 free- 24.08,) Erin Metzger-Seymour (100 fly- 54.55,) and Courtney Evenson (500 free- 5:00.70.)
The Tiger men were also strong across the board but a few stand-outs from some contending schools managed to steal a few wins out from under them. Lindenwood’s Serghei Golban was the only sub-21 finisher in the 50 freestyle, hitting the wall at 20.75, with Missouri State freshman Samuel Senn also holding the Tigers back at 21.04 for second.
Missouri State’s Artur Osvath took the 100 fly at 48.94, followed by former NCAA Division II Record Holder and 2011 National Champion, Drury’s Jun Han Kim, who touched in 49.17.
The MSU Bears also managed a one-two finish over the 500 freestyle when Antonio Thomas and Minki Kang touched in nearly identical times from separate heats at 4:35.75 and 4:35.76.
Mizzou’s Michael Chadwick won both the 200 IM (1:49.16) and the 100 free (44.00) for the only double-win of the men’s swimming events. Other winners for the Tigers were Carter Griffin (200 free- 1:40.55,) Daniel Hein (100 back- 49.75,) and 2016 NCAA Champion Fabian Schwingeschloegl (100 breast- 54.65.)
Next Friday Missouri begins SEC competition when they host Alabama at noon.
