Broncos Bring In 5 Verbals: Segneri, Hill, Mattheson, Sale, & Almeter

Boise State University women’s swimming and diving team has been busy forming its freshman class of 2017-18, and from the looks of things, they’ve been raiding the seniors from Arizona’s Scottsdale Aquatic Club. Emma Segneri, Hayley Hill, and Nicole Matheson, all from SAC, have recently given verbal commitments to the Broncos. So have Colorado’s Lauren Sale and Texas’ Lydia Almeter. The quintet add their names to the commit list that also includes the already-reported Lucia Davis and Madison Frederick.

Emma Segneri

Emma Segneri of Scottsdale Aquatic Club and Chaparral High School is a fly/free/IM specialist. She placed third in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 fly at the 2015 Arizona Division I State Championships last fall, then went on to compete in the 100 fly and 200 IM at 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors. Her best SCY times are:

  • 100 fly – 55.08
  • 200 fly – 2:05.10
  • 50 free – 23.94
  • 100 free – 52.34
  • 200 IM – 2:08.09
  • 400 IM – 4:34.74

Hayley Hill

Hill is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Scottsdale Aquatic Club and Pinnacle High School. She specializes in the longer-range freestyle events, and placed fourth in both the 200/500 freestyle events at last fall’s Arizona Division I State Championships. Hill had top-8 finishes in 400/800/1500m frees at Western Zone Sectionals in both March and July and earned Winter Juniors cuts in the 200/400m frees. Her best SCY times are:

  • 200 free – 1:51.64
  • 500 free – 4:54.52
  • 1000 free – 10:09.96
  • 1650 free – 17:08.74

Nicole Matheson

Matheson swims for Sunrise Mountain High School and Scottsdale Aquatic Club. She focuses mainly on mid-distance freestyle; she won the 500 and placed third in the 200 free at the 2015 Arizona Division II State Championships. She competed in the 200/400/800m frees, 200m fly, and 200/400m IMs at Mt. Hood Sectionals this summer. Her top times in SCY are:

  • 200 free – 1:54.88
  • 500 free – 5:00.28
  • 1000 free – 10:18.06
  • 1650 free – 17:18.48
  • 200 fly – 2:09.41
  • 400 IM – 4:35.28

Lauren Sale

Sale is a backstroker from Westminster, Colorado, who swims for Jeffco Hurricanes and Pomona High School. She placed 11th in the 100 back and 20th in the 100 fly at the 2016 Colorado Girls 5A State Championships. Her top SCY times are:

  • 50 back – 27.97
  • 100 back – 57.52
  • 200 back – 2:01.80
  • 100 fly – 58.09
  • 200 IM – 2:09.49

Lydiah Almeter

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to Boise State University! The swimmers and coaching staff felt like the perfect fit! I can’t wait to join the Bronco family!”

Almeter, from Allen, Texas, is homeschooled and swims for Texas Ford Aquatics. Specializing in sprint freestyle, Almeter made significant progress during her junior year. She dropped 4/10 in the 50, 7/10 in the 100, and over 5 seconds in the 200 yard free. Her best times are:

  • 50 free – 24.10
  • 100 free – 53.93
  • 200 free – 1:59.83
