Bob Bowman and ASU continue a fruitful recruiting season with a verbal commitment from Arizona’s own Joshua Vedder out of Scottsdale Aquatic Club.

Vedder is a backstroker with complementary speed in sprint freestyle. At this summer’s U.S. Junior Nationals, Vedder touched 32nd in both the 100 back (58.72) and 200 back (2:07.63).
TOP TIMES (SCY/LCM)
- 50 back – 23.75/27.43
- 100 back – 49.81/58.46
- 200 back – 1:49.20/2:07.14
- 50 free – 21.61/24.59
- 100 free – 46.45/53.76
- 200 free – 1:42.58/1:59.85
At last year’s Pac-12 Championships, it took a 1:48.8 to qualify for the B final (Pac-12 scoring only includes A and B finalists). That event would be Vedder’s best shot at conference level scoring.
Meanwhile, he adds backstroke depth to an ASU program that brought in two studs this year in Cameron Craig and Zach Poti. Both have serious potential in the backstrokes, and Vedder will get to train with them for three full seasons.
Vedder joins Jack Damolin and Grant House in the ASU class of 2021.
