Breaststroker Cailey Renken Makes Verbal Commitment to Rice

Cailey Renken, who until July was from Camarillo, California but is now living in Atlanta, Georgia, has given her verbal commitment to the Rice University Owls for 2017-18.

“I chose Rice University because of the combination of phenomenal academics and athletics offered at the university.  I loved everything about the school and the team and I can’t wait to spend my next four years here!  Go Owls!”

While Renken currently swims for Swim Atlanta (John’s Creek location) and attends Alpharetta High School, her swimming results to date all come from California. At Adolfo Camarillo High School in Camarillo, California, Renken was a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American with seven school records and three MVP honors. She won the 100 breast at the 2015 CIF-SS Division III Championships and was runner-up in the 200 IM; she also swam breast on the Scorpions’ second-place medley relay and anchored their third-place 400 free relay. Renken plans to swim for her current school, Alpharetta High School, during her senior year.

Swimming for CLASS Aquatics in California, her best times were:

  • 100y breast – 1:02.06
  • 100m breast – 1:11.86
  • 200y breast – 2:15.62
  • 200 free – 1:51.56

Renken will add significant strength to the Owls’ breaststroke lineup; she would have been an A-finalist in both the 100 and 200 breast events at 2016 Conference USA Championships. Renken is part of a strong recruiting class that also includes verbal commits Ellery Parish, Hannah Sumbera, and Lindsay Mathys.
