The Alabama men will add another breaststroker to their roster, as Snow Swimming’s Michael Burris has verbally committed to join the Crimson Tide next fall after he graduates from Heritage High School. Burris is primarily a breaststroker, but he’s also good in the IM events.
Burris is a 2-time Virginia 4A High School League State champion. At that meet last Febuary, he won the 200 IM (1:53.60) and 100 breast (56.64). He then went on to set new best times in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes at the NCSA Spring Championships. His 56.00 in the 100 breast landed him a 17th place finish, while his 2:02.49 in the 200 breast was good for 11th.
Burris’ best time in the 100 breast is within a second of what it took to score at last season’s SEC Championship meet. At that met, Bama had now-seniors Pavel Romanov and Anton McKee in the top 16. McKee was an A-finalist in the 100 and 200 breast, while Romanov scored in the B-final of both.
Those two will have graduated when Burris arrives on campus, but he will have Braxton Young to train with. Young is currently in his junior season with the Crimson Tide, and swam a lifetime best 56.44 in the 100 breast at the Bulldog Invite last season.
Burris’ Top Times:
Event | Best time |
100 breast | 56.00 |
200 breast | 2:02.49 |
200 IM | 1:53.08 |
400 IM | 4:03.49 |
Congrats Michael!
