UDAC Backstroker Charlie Ryan Verbally Commits to Michigan State

Charlie Ryan (“John Ryan” in the USA Swimming database) of Wayne, Pennsylvania has verbally committed to swim for Michigan State University next fall. Ryan swims for Upper Dublin Aquatic Club and for The Haverford School in Pennsylvania. He is primarily a backstroker, with Winter Nationals cuts in both the 100 and 200 distances.

Ryan contributed greatly to The Haverford School’s second-place finish at the 2016 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships, with his fourth in the 100 fly (50.97) and third in the 100 back (51.01). He also split a 23.08 fly on the medley relay which took fourth, and a 45.55 on the runner-up 400 free relay.

Ryan finaled in the 100/200 back and 200 IM at the 2016 NCSA Spring Swimming Championships, and took 16th in the 100m back and 12th in the 200m back at Speedo Summer Junior Nationals, achieving best times in both events.

His best SCY times are:

  • 200 back – 1:49.93
  • 100 back – 50.62
  • 200 IM – 1:53.22
  • 100 fly – 50.46
  • 200 fly – 1:53.47
