Hawaii will be adding a new breaststroker to their ranks next season, as Indiana-based Kionna Clayton has given her verbal commitment to join the Rainbow Wahine. Clayton’s current training base is with PRO Swimming in Uniondale, and she’ll be graduating from Penn High School at the end of this school year.
Clayton, a Scholastic All-American, was a medalist in the 100 breast at the 2016 Indiana Girls State Championships. At that meet, she popped a 1:02.62 on her way to a 3rd place finish. She was also the High School Sectionals champion in that race with her personal best 1:02.58.

Last season, the Hawaii women placed 2nd at the MPSF Championships. Adding Clayton to the roster should have an immediate scoring impact for the team. Her time in the 100 breast is already fast enough to qualify for the championship final at the conference meet. It would also make her the fastest 100 breaststroker on Hawaii’s current roster, so she’ll likely be a contributor in the medley relays as well.
