Kentucky State Record-holder Keefer Barnum Gives Verbal to Virginia

Louisville, Kentucky-native Keefer Barnum has given a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia for 2017-18.

“I’m very excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of Virginia. I love the team energy, the motivational coaching staff, and the world-class education. I’m really looking forward to the next four years. Go Hoos!”

Barnum is a senior at Saint Xavier High School and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association state record-holder in the 100 breast and 200 medley relay. At the 2016 KHSAA State Meet, he finished fifth in the 200 IM (1:51.70) and first in the 100 breast (55.31 – he broke the state record with a 54.96 in prelims). He split a 25.32 50 breast to help Saint Xavier break the state record in the 200 medley relay.

Swimming for his club team, Lakeside Swim Team, Barnum won the 50/100/200m breast and finaled in 3 more events at the NCSA Summer Swimming Championships. His top SCY times are:

  • 100 breast – 54.69
  • 200 breast – 1:59.74
  • 200 IM – 1:51.70
  • 400 IM – 3:54.76

Barnum adds his name to a growing list of strong verbal commits to the UVA class of 2021: Cooper Wozencraft, Dylan Cudahy, Edward Rudman, Matt Otto, Robby Giller, and Sam Schilling.
