Spanish Breaststroker Paula Garcia Estrella Verbally Commits to Akron

Paulita Garcia Estrella, from Club de Natación Madrid Moscardó in Madrid, Spain, has verbally committed to the University of Akron for 2017-18.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for The University of Akron next year! Can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing team and I believe that studying at University of Akron can help me develop myself academically and as an athlete.

“I am looking forward to swimming for Coach Brian Peresie!! Go zips!”

Garcia Estrella is a top junior swimmer in Spain. She specializes in breaststroke and has represented the Spanish flag at a number of international meets. Garcia Estrella was a finalist at the 1st European Games in Baku in June 2015; she placed 6th in the 100m breast, and she also made it through to the semi-finals in the 50m breast. She also competed in the 50/100m breast at the European Junior Swimming Championships this past summer, reaching the semi-final in both events.

Her best LCM times, converted to SCY with our Speedo Time Converter, are:

  LCM SCY converted
50 breast 32.56 28.43
100 breast 1:10.62 1:01.81
200 breast 2:35.93 2:16.87
200 IM 2:26.98 2:09.53
100 free 1:00.15 52.74
200 free 2:08.08 1:52.50

While Akron won the 2016 MAC Championships by a comfortable margin, Garcia Estrella would have added even more points to the Zips’ tally. Her breaststroke times would have landed her in the A finals of both the 100 and 200 distances. Garcia Estrella will join Ohio’s Ally Wharton, another verbal commit to the University of Akron class of 2021.
