Madison Central High School won 9 of 11 events and broke 4 state records to cap its 4th-straight Mississippi state title in Class II.
Madison Central won all three relays, breaking state and class II records in all three. The medley relay was 1:49.32 to shave a half-second off a state record the school already owned from 2014. The 200 free relay became the first in Mississippi state history under 1:40, hitting a 1:39.98 to slice a tenth off another 2014 Madison Central state record. And the 400 free relay completed the trifecta, going 3:40.61 to to take almost a second off of the state record while crushing the Class II mark.
Also breaking records was Mallory Dickey, who went 58.82 to take down the Class II state record while winning the 100 back for Madison Central. Dickey also won the 200 IM in 2:11.13, narrowly touching out her teammate Jessica Blanchard. Blanchard was 2:11.48.
The team combined for four more wins in a dominating showing. Blanchard returned to take the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.37. Maddie Howell won a pair of races. She led a 1-2-3 sweep for Central in the 50 free, going 24.03, then returned right after the break to win the 100 fly in 59.38. That race was a 1-2 finish for Madison Central. The 100 free went to 50 free runner-up Paige Kessler in 54.17.
The only outsiders to nip a state title were Ocean Springs’ Gabrielle Ivey and Tupelo’s Mattie Hughes. Those two went 1-2 in the 200 free, with Ivey winning in 1:58.25. Later in the meet, Hughes would win the 500 free with a 5:25.34.
