Georgia Men Get First In-State Verbal with Joshua Fulcher

Augusta, Georgia’s Joshua Fulcher has given his verbal commitment to swim from the Georgia Bulldogs beginning with the 2017-2018 season.

Fulcher swims for Aiken-Augusta Swim League and the Westminster Schools of Augusta. He is a middle-distance freestyle specialist, and has three winter junior national cuts (200 yard free, 500 yard free, 200 meter free). With one high school swimming season to go, Fulcher has already accumulated 7 Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) state titles in three different individual events (200 free, 500 free, 100 back).

Fulcher’s best times are:

Event  SCY LCM
100 Free  46.26  54.03
200 Free 1:40.09  1:56.06
500 Free  4:30.50  4:06.95
200 Back  1:54.38  2:13.99

On choosing to join the Bulldogs, Fulcher said, “I felt connected to the team environment, much like a family. Not only are Jack Bauerle and Harvey Humphries excellent coaches, but they are men who will act as mentors, shaping my future beyond the pool.” He recognized that the opportunity to swim at a top-ranked collegiate swimming program has been a team effort, and made sure to thank his family, especially his Mom (and high school swim coach), his club coaches Jeff Rout, Neil Harper and Adam Sasso, and his teacher, Marsha Cantrell (“Mama CanCan”).

Although the first local pick-up for the Georgia men’s Class of 2021, Fulcher is the sixth commitment overall, joining Camden Murphy, Tal Davis, Greg Reed, Teagan Cheney and Aaron Apel. Within this class, Fulcher will have a handful of training partners. Davis and Cheney have faster 200 free times, while Reed and Apel have faster 500/1650 free times, and they can provide competition for Fulcher in whichever direction he progresses.

He will also have one year to train with the Litherland triplets and Olympian Gunnar Bentz, two years to train with Aidan Burns, and three years to train with Walker Higgins and Clayton Forde.
