The final Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches’ Association (WISCA) rankings before next weekend’s Wisconsin Girls’ State Championship meets are out, and there hasn’t been much movement in either Division I or Division II.
The rankings, based mathematically on results submitted by coaches, are released each week throughout the season. The big movers were West Bend West, who lept 5 spots to sit at #6 in the current polls, thanks in part to freshman Morgan Champagne in the 200 free and 100 fly at the Cedarburg Sectional. She placed 2nd in the 200 free (1:52.75) and won the 100 fly (57.95) with big drops from her seed time in both cases. While West Bend West only took 4th in that Sectional (behind including others #4 Cedarburg), their top-end swimmers, including Champagne, Sydney Kaphingst, and Kailyn Arps, still vaulted them up the latest rankings.
In Division II, the top 4 all remained untouched after Sectional Championships. Whitnall, however, jumped 3 spots after the New Berlin – Eisenhower Sectional meet and now sit 5th in the Division II rankings. Junior Kelly McElvain won the 200 IM (2:11.37); sophomore Nicole Beckman placed 2nd in the 100 fly (59.28); and the Falcons’ senior diver Alyssa Doherty show that she’s state-caliber to improve the team’s chances next weekend.
The Division 2 State Championship meet (small schools) will be held on Friday November 11th at the Wisconsin Natatorium in Madison. The Division 1 meet will be held a day later in the same venue. both will be organized as timed finals meets.
