Clearwater Freestyler Annaklara Doel Commits to Cornell

Annaklara Doel of Palm Harbor, Florida has verbally committed to the application process at Cornell University.* Doel is a senior at East Lake High School and swims for Clearwater Aquatic Team.

“Cornell University is the perfect place for me to pursue a degree in Engineering and continue my love for swimming! The coaching staff and swim team was so welcoming and supportive of everyone, I couldn’t think of a better place I would want to be! Go Big Red!”

Earlier this month Doel led East Lake High School to a 21st-place finish at the FHSAA Class 3A Championships. She earned a sixth in the 500 free (4:59.14) and a seventh in the 200 IM (2:09.50). She also swam the fly leg of the 200 medley relay (26.8) and anchored the 200 free relay (25.0), both of which earned 14th place.

Doel had a strong showing at the 2016 Dolfin Junior National Championship Cup, finaling in the 500/400 free (8th) and 400 IM (14th). In addition she went best times in the 200y free and 800m free at the meet. She was particularly strong in her long course season this past summer and earned new PBs in everything she swam. Her best SCY events are:

  • 1650 free – 17:10.31
  • 1000 free – 10:14.16
  • 500 free- 4:56.45
  • 200 free – 1:54.65
  • 400 IM – 4:31.41
  • 200 fly – 2:08.72

Doel will be joined by fellow-commit Sophia Cherkez in the Cornell University class of 2021.
