2016 Mizzou Invite
- Live results
- Hosted by University of Missouri
- Thursday, November 17th to Saturday, November 19th
- 25 yards
- Invite format
Missouri senior Andrew Sansoucie rocked the pool with a 44.86 to win the 100 fly on the first night of the Mizzou Invite tonight. That makes him the 10th-fastest ever in the event. That time is also a second faster than he swam in the prelims of the NCAA championships last March, where he ended up 14th in finals.
Going into today, no other NCAA swimmer had cracked 46 seconds this season in official competition, (although Jack Conger did go 45.4 at the Texas Orange-White meet). If Sansoucie can repeat his effort come March, it should make for an incredibly exciting NCAA final, where he’ll likely compete against other 44-second swimmers like Conger, Caeleb Dressel, and Joseph Schooling.
In other events:
- The Missouri women won the 200 free relay in 1:29.75, a time that was faster than any other in the NCAA heading into today (although we’ve seen time faster times today at the NC State and Georgia Tech invites).
- Senior Michael Chadwick led off the Missouri men’s 200 free relay in 19.18, en route to a Missouri victory in 1:17.33.
- Kira Zubar, Missouri, won the 500 free in 4:40.40.
- Erin Metzer-Seymor gave the Missouri women their third win of the night, taking the 100 fly in 52.81.
- Drury’s Konard Stepien took the men’s 500 free in 4:17.19.
- The Missouri women touched 1st-5th in the 200 IM, led by Sharli Brady in 1:57.39.
- Chadwick showed that he can do more than just sprint, winning the 200 IM in 1:43.01.
- Mizzou’s Madeleine Gehrke just touched out Drury’s Wen Xu in the 50 free, 22.45 to 22.48.
- Drury did pick up the win in the 50 free on the men’s side, with Rodrigo Caceres touching first in 19.79.
- The Missouri women wrapped up their evening by winning the 400 medley relay in 3:32.94, which appears to be the fastest time in the NCAA so far this season.
- The Missouri men followed suit with a 3:05.67 victory; that’s less than a second off what they swam in the A-final at NCAA last year. Fabian Schwingenschloegl split 51.01 on the breast leg, and Chadwick anchored in 41.72.

how does a 100 yard time relate to a 100 meter time?
is there a simple conversion like dividing by .91?
It’s not really that simple – depends on how good the individual swimmer is at underwaters/turns and also how efficient their stroke is to hold up the extra 25+ meters.
FWIW, I’m pretty sure every swimmer that’s been a 44 scy 100 fly save Caeleb Dressel, Marcin Cieslak, Matt Grevers, Austin Staab and Logan Madson have been at least a 51 lcm. We’ll see if Sancoucie can get himself down there, his best lcm is 53.1 thus far.
Awesome swim.
Mizzou had better go out with a bang this year – they lose Schwingenschlogl, Chadwick, and Sansoucie next year (probably their best 3 swimmers).
What were the splits on that last relay for missouri? If they have a top 5 breaststroker, flyer and freestyler they might be in contention to win that event come NCAAs, still early but wow
They have last year’s 100 breast champion in Schwingenshlogl, and a 41 second freestyler in Chadwick. Hein dropped seven tenths off his fly PB yesterday, so I’ll be interested to see what his 100 back looks like today fresh – which is what it will be at NCAAs, Mizzou Invite does an odd first day schedule.
Mizzou’s 400 MR splits:
Hein- 47.34
Schwingenschlogl- 51.01
Sansoucie- 45.60
Chadwick- 41.72
Schooling:44.01
Dressel:44.40
Conger:44.55
Sansoucie:44.86
Josa 44.89
Has there ever been a faster group of flyers competing at the same time? NCAA’s is gonna be awesome swimming has evolved
If they can get some magic out of Hein(or Carter, but I’m biased since I raced Hein in high school), they could have some serious magic going with that medley relay.
This article mentions that no one has been under 46. Does Conger’s 45 from earlier this season not count?
I did forget about Conger’s time from the Texas Instrasquad meet, since those didn’t end up in the offcial NCAA database.
43 at the end of season…….. anyone else think possible?
By Schooling.
If he swam at another school yes, but Mizzou, like Arizona, often rests their swimmers considerably more than is usual for their midseason invite. They do this so that they don’t have to rest fully for conference champs if they get NCAA cuts (which in theory allows them to swim faster at NCAAs). So it will be hard for him to drop .87 in a 100 on extra rest alone. That being said, it should be noted he is on a strong improvement curve. 47.11 – 46.50 – 45.86 – 44.86
They do taper more in the winter than most of the elite teams, but I feel like they’ve had a lot more success carrying through to NCAAs than those Arizona teams of a few years back under Hansen.
Yea probably. Think he might be able to be around 44.5 at least come NCAAs.top three should be
Schooling 43.4
Dressel 43.9
Sanssouci 44.5?/ conger 44.4?
Wow.
