Brittany Aoyama, Sharae Zheng Earn Mountain West Weekly Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State senior Brittany Aoyama is the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, while Nevada junior Sharae Zheng has earned MW Women’s Diver of the Week honors for competition through November 20, 2016. It is the second accolade for each student-athlete this season. For Aoyama, it is her ninth career award and the third of Zheng’s career.

The Mountain West Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 15-18 at the Texas A&M Natatorium in College Station, Texas.

WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

BRITTANY AOYAMA, BOISE STATE

Senior, Stockton, California / Linden HS

• Swam NCAA ‘B’ cut times in three individual races and one relay event as Boise State placed third at the Texas A&M Art Adamson Invitational last week.
• Placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.45) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.04), while finishing third in the 100-yard freestyle (49.03).
• All three times rank first in the Mountain West this season and rank in the top-25 nationally – 50-free – T-18^th, 100-fly – 7^th, and 100-free – 25th.
• Swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team that recorded a ‘B’ cut time of 1:29.58. The time currently ranks fourth in the nation.
• Swam legs on three additional relays that also produced national top-25 times – 400-yard freestyle (3:17.90; 13^th), 800-yard freestyle (7:10.43; 7^th) and 400-yard medley relay (3:37.81; 17^th).

WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK

SHARAE ZHENG, NEVADA

Junior, Chengdu, China / Sport School of Sichuan Province

• Was the top Mountain West competitor in two events at the Northern Arizona Diving Invitational last week.
• Won the 1-meter springboard event with a score of 319.45.
• Took the 3-meter springboard title with a mark of 362.95.
• Both scores are NCAA qualifying scores.
