DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Evan Moretti was named the ACC Male Diver of the Week for the first time in his career Tuesday after winning the 1-meter springboard diving event at the NC State GAC Invite in Greensboro, N.C.
Moretti earned a career-best award of 365.70 in the men’s 1-meter finals Thursday to take first overall in a highly competitive field that featured three ranked teams. He improved upon his preliminaries score by over 65 points to post the fifth-highest 1-meter score in program history.
Moretti also placed top-three on the platform (311.65) and surpassed the NCAA Zones qualification standard in all three events over the weekend. His performances helped the Blue Devil men finish third in the final team standings behind only top-ranked NC State and No. 21 Notre Dame.
An NCAA qualifier and honorable mention All-America selection on the 3-meter springboard last season, Moretti ranks third all-time at Duke in 1-meter diving, fifth on the 3-meter board (381.90) and fourth on the platform (319.90).
Moretti and the Blue Devil men and women return to competition Saturday, Dec. 3 in a dual meet at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C.
