Ryan Hoffer, Scottsdale, Break NAG Record in 200 Free Relay

2016 SPEEDO Winter JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS WEST

Jack Blake (18), Ray van Deusen (18), Parker Hughes (15), and Ryan Hoffer (18) of the Scottsdale Aquatic Club combined for a 1:19.29 in the 200 yard free relay on Friday, which makes for the fastest 15-18 swim in the history of USA Swimming. The old record of 1:19.55 was set last year by the NCAP relay of John ShebatCarsten VisseringAndrew Seliskar, and James Jones.

While the swim on Friday night was actually the fastest ever done by an American junior relay, NCAP’s old swim will maintain the 17-18 record: because Hughes is only 15, Scottsdale was not eligible to break that record.

The Scottsdale relay included three 20-second splits and an 18.76 anchor from Hoffer – who was an 18.71 on a flat-start 50 free earlier in the meet.
