In a very exciting final, Japan’s Rikako Ikee downed both the Japanese and Junior World Records to win bronze in the women’s 100 fly. Ikee put up a time of 55.64, lowering her own Junior World Record of 56.42 set at the Tokyo stop of the World Cup this past October. It also takes Yuka Kato‘s Japanese Record of 56.09 off the books, set in 2013 on the World Cup circuit.
Ikee’s swim was four tenths short of the Asian Record of 55.25, held by China’s Lu Ying from the 2014 SC Championships in Doha.
Along with the 100 fly, Ikee also owns the 50 fly & 100 IM SC Junior World Records and the 50 fly LC.
That is Ikee’s third medal of the meet, as she also won bronze in the 50 fly and the 4×50 mixed medley relay. Katinka Hosszu won gold in the race in a time of 55.12, and Kelsi Worrell won silver in 55.22. Both of those swims were National Records as well, Hungarian for Hosszu and American for Worrell.
