Sebastian Tostado’s performance in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events in the Albion College dual meet against the nationally ranked team from Southwestern University led to his selection as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Athlete of the Week in men’s swimming & diving.
A senior from Mexico, Tostado completed the 200 in 1:45.05, easily the fastest time in the league in the opening week of the year. He also finished first in the 500, achieving a time of 4:58.86, and was a member of the 200 free relay that finished first.
“Sebastian had a breakthrough in the 200 freestyle to complete a very successful training trip in Texas,” Head Coach Jake Taber said. “Coming off a film session, his integration of how to better swim this event was executed very well.”
Tostado and the Britons are training for a Saturday dual meet against MIAA rival Calvin College in Grand Rapids. It will be a contest between nationally ranked teams with Albion listed 17th in the latest Division III survey issued by the collegeswimming.com website and Calvin checking in 22nd.
