Putting on a monster showing in one of their final tune-ups leading up to the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships, the IUPUI women’s swimming and diving teams thumped Youngstown State in a commanding 184-114 dual-meet Saturday (Jan. 14).  The Jags finished with the top spot in 12 of 16 events.

Claudia Crawford was one of a handful of Jags with a masterful overall performance on the day, as the freshman took the top-spot in two individual events as well as a relay.  She finished first in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:08.81) and the 200 Breast (2:29.15), while serving as the second leg in the top-placing 200 Medley Relay team.  Teammates Mallory Buha, Maranda Buha, and Lauren Campblell helped combine for a 1:49.91 time.

The elder Buha also paddled first for the top-placing 400 Free Relay team, as three other Jags combined for a 3:37.98 finish.  Brittani Grove, Olivia Treski, and Campbell also swam in the event.  Buha added to her pair of relay victories with a first-place spot in the 100 Fly (58.43) while also finishing second in the 50 Free (24.95) behind Campbell (24.82).

Campbell added a top-spot in the 100 Free, logging a 54.00 flat just ahead of Grove (54.60).  It marked her second first-place finish in an individual event on the day.  Treski continued her dominance in the pool with another pair of top-spots in the 500 Free (5:09.59) and the 1000 Free (10:44.45).  Rachel Metzger came in second on the latter of the two events, logging a 11:13.95 time.

First-year Jag Eline van den Bossche (2:09.68) finished nearly three whole seconds ahead of Allison Cicero (2:12.62) in the 200 Back as the Jags captured the top-two spots in the event.  The younger Buha completed the shorter 100 Back in first-place time with a 1:00.59 finish.  Cicero was just behind her at 1:01.62.

Senior Melissa Berger led the diving squad to strong showing on the day as well, as the two-time 2016-17 Summit League Diver of the Week launched to a 257.40 score in the women’s one-meter springboard.  Teammate Bailey Wills hopped her performance on the three-meter, placing second with a 246.75.  Berger logged a 236.02 score.

With the closing of the event, the Jags will now turn to next weekend, in which the team hosts Notre Dame and Indiana State Saturday (Jan. 21) in the final regular season meet prior to the Summit League Tournament.
