Who is more versatile than Jack Conger? He’s got a legitimate shot to final at Olympic Trials in the backstroke events, and he went 19 in the 50 and 4:17 in the 500 at his high school championship meet. He’ll be a senior in the fall and Garrett McCaffrey catches up with him after his rival Ryan Murphy took down his NAG record in the 100 back.

agreed, but cal just has so much going for them. the one turnoff from texas is how non-competitive their conference will be now that TAM is out. and the pac-12 is just so competitive it makes the duel meets and conference meet that much more team oriented and fun. i hope both jack and ryan end up at cal, there is clearly a dynasty begining in berkeley (that could be said for the women as well) that both could greatly contribute to.
I think Cal would be the best (but I am somewhat biased), and I think they both might go there. Don’t Murphy and Pebley always talk about being friends in MSS interviews? But what Conger said here made it sounds like Texas has been talking to him and trying to explain there somewhat disappointing NCAA performance.
i think cal would be a great fit for jack. look at tom sheilds, who has the same versitility and all the success he has had. i dont know how zona would work out, im just not a fan of the idea of all that focus in december meets. georgia would also be a great spot, great class coming in and jack baurerle is know for his mid dist which jack conger clearly is. imagine if a school got the 1-2 punch of jack and ryan murphy? gameover.
Jack is such a class act – and your website is great. Thanks Garrett!
…I think a lot of swim fans worry about the future, about what will happen after Phelps is gone. I don’t, not seeing guys like Conger coming on strong.
(And……..I think Phelps will come back in the 100m free in 2014/15.)
CAL!!!
First, thank you for your great website. I think it’s by far the best website for swimming fans of the moment.
Second, for Jack Conger and Ryan Murphy, after NAG records, perhaps in few years they will exchange world records in backstroke. I don’t forget Jacob Pebley too.
Sounds like Texas is going after him hard.
