Breaststroker Tanner Olson Commits to Texas A&M

According to his father, Tanner Olson verbally committed to Texas A&M University on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017. A senior at Saugus High School in Southern California, Olson is the reigning CIF-Southern Section Division I champion in the 100 yard breaststroke. He won the event last May at the section meet with 55.33, having gone 54.90 in prelims. Olson also finaled in the 50 free (8th) and contributed to a pair of Saugus relays (he split a 25.10 breast in the medley, and anchored the 400 free relay with 44.99).

Olson swims year-round for Canyons Aquatic Club under Coley Stickels. He participated at 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in both the 100m breast and 200m breast but his best LCM times come from American Short Course Championships last March. Olson has kicked off his senior year with a bevy of new PBs. He went best times in the 100/200 breast and 200 IM at Winter Nationals in December (where he finished 12th, 8th, and 12th, respectively), and in the 50/200 free and 100 fly at California/Nevada Sectionals two weeks later.

His top SCY times include:

  • 100 breast – 54.22
  • 200 breast – 1:56.89
  • 200 IM – 1:48.34
  • 50 free – 20.50
  • 100 free – 45.74
  • 100 fly – 49.44

Olson will join Ben Walker and Hudson Smith, who have also committed to swimming for the Aggies in 2017-18.
