Florida Atlantic University swimming and diving celebrated its six seniors in the best way as divers Ryan McIntire and Victoria Moretti broke the school records in the 3-meter dive and the team combined for another eight first-place finishes including one from senior Hannah Roper.

“Today, the swimmers and divers gave it their all and sent off their senior teammates: Bridget Belcik, Ryan McIntire, John Nolte, Rachel Rende,Hannah Roper and Breanna Saukas with a bang,” said Head Swim and Dive Coach Lara Preacco. “It was an absolute victory on the diving side as Ryan (McIntire) and Victoria (Moretti) set two new school records both in the 3-meter.”

Making A Splash

Men

  • In his final meet at the FAU Aquatic Center, McIntire went out on a high note as he won the 3-meter dive and broke the school record with a final score of 370.5. Miles Miller and McIntire then delivered a one-two punch as they took first and second in the 1-meter dive with scores of 320.25 and 312.60, respectively.
  • Junior Cole Wisecarver turned on the speed in the 200-yard freestyle as he took second with a season-best time of 1:43.72.
  • Fellow junior John Brennock had the men’s first win as he swam a 51.51 in the 100-yard backstroke to claim victory. He followed that up with a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (46.76).
  • Phillip Crouch nearly matched his in-season best time with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.36).
  • In the 200-yard butterfly, Marco Leo was the Owls’ top performer coming in third with a time of 1:55.51. John Nolte competed in the 100-yard butterfly and finished in second-place with a time of 51.78.
  • In a race to the finish, Connor Hodges tied for first in the 500-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 4:46.25.
  • Alex Taber swam 1:53.68 in the 200-yard backstroke to take second. Calvin Lillo also saw a second-place finish but in the 200-yard IM (1:57.70).
  • To cap off the day, the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Brennock, Wisecarver, Colin Kozak and Nolte clinched the win with a time of 1:23.72.
  • The Pioneers came out on top with a final score of 183.5 to the Owls’ 114.5.

Women

  • Victoria Moretti had another record-setting performance in the 3-meter dive with a final score of 332.40 to set a new school record. She also took first in the 1-meter with a score of 268.35.
  • Claiming the first win of the day for the Owls was Danielle Zacharias who took first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:43.81. The freshman also swam well in the 500-yard freestyle coming in second (5:12.76).
  • Senior Hannah Roper went out on top as she swam to a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.99). She also had a strong performance in the 100-yard breaststroke coming in second in 1:05.97, which was just 11 one hundredths of a second behind the winner.
  • Sharon Kok was the top finisher in the 200-yard freestyle coming in at 1:55.96.
  • In the 100-yard backstroke, Megan Reuter and Alexis DeLisle took second and third in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 1:01.77 and 1:01.92, respectively.
  • Kyleigh Firman swam a :59 flat in the 100-yard butterfly to come away with the victory. In the 200-yard butterfly, the junior swam a 2:11.70, which was good for second.
  • In the final event of the day, Melanie Doan, Firman, Lydia Muslehand Kelsey Witkay came in second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.33).
  • The women came up just shy of the win with a score of 143 to IRSC’s 157.

Up Next

The divers will head up to Orlando for the All-Star Meet on Saturday, Feb. 4 while the women will compete against FIU that same day in Miami.
