Women’s 200-yard Freestyle Relay

After a long delay in which officials reviewed the final two heats on video, the results were finalized and Queens University of Charlotte posted the top time of the morning with 1:32.52. The Royals were represented by Lara Marshall (23.59), Kyrie Dobson (22.78), Shane Knight (23.21), and Michelle Prayson (22.94).
Drury, led by a NCAA Division II record-breaking 22.33 from Bailee Nunn, finished second with 1:32.73. Nunn was followed by Vera Johansson (22.85), Caytee Wright (23.97), and Madeline Nelson (23.58). MSU Mankato nearly chased down Queens in the penultimate heat; they finished third overall with 1:32.97 from Cheyenne Rova (23.15), Margaret Knier (23.46), Taylor Bass (23.72), and Cecilia Hake (22.64).
Florida Southern and Northern Michigan were disqualified.

Northern State junior Hannah Kastigar won the first circle-seeded heat by over 5 seconds in 4:15.42, with Wingate junior Alexis Divelbiss coming in second at 4:20.72. In the next heat, Drury freshman Ella Bryan used a strong breaststroke leg to claim victory with 4:22.40; coming in close behind her was Morgan McClure of Cal State East Bay (4:23.74) and Nova S’eastern junior Courtney Deveny (4:24.10).
Queens junior Josephina Lorda got out to an early lead in the final heat, building up more than a body-length lead by the first backstroke turn. Delta State senior Melanie Tombers came back over the breaststroke leg, as did Fresno Pacific’s Bavindeep Basra. Tombers swam away with the race over the freestyle leg, finishing first with 4:20.48. Basra took second in the heat with 4:22.29. Lorda placed third in 4:22.45.

Drury freshman sensation Bailee Nunn, fresh off her NCAA Division II record in the 50 free while leading off the Panthers’ 200 free relay, set the pace for the 100 fly qualifiers by swimming exactly the same time as she was entered with: 53.16. West Florida senior Theresa Michalak, who placed third in this event last year, swam just off her seed time with 53.34 for second.
Queens scored big points in their quest to win a third consecutive team title, placing two in the championship final with senior Hannah Peiffer and freshman Georgia DaCruz. They qualified third and fourth in 53.96 and 53.98, respectively. William Jewell senior Paige Meredith dropped almost a full second to make the A final. Wingate freshman Ebba Stillman and Saint Leo junior Natalia Garriock tied for 8th with 54.67; there will be a swim-off.

Bridgeport freshman Oksana Marchuk swam an even race with 2016 runner-up Mckenzie Stevens of Queens in the first circle-seeded heat. The two turned together at the 100 wall, then Stevens moved ahead on the 3rd 50. Marchuk had a great finish, though, and got the touch, 0:48.89 to 1:48.92. Maria Madsen of Wingate finished third in the heat with 1:50.32.
Grand Valley senior Leonie Van Noort, who was runner-up in the 1000 free on Wednesday night and came in under the previous meet record time, won the penultimate heat with 1:49.58 over Drury freshman Erica Dahlgren (1:50.28) and Carson-Newman junior Margaret Stansberry (1:50.30). Dahlgren ended up 8th overall, while Stansberry missed the A-final cutoff by 2/100.
Nova S’eastern senior Emma Wahlstrom, third in this event last year, won the final heat in 1:47.87, posting the top time of the morning. Alexis Divelbiss of Wingate was second with 1:48.91, while Henderson State freshman Anastasiia Manakova took third in 1:49.55.

Queens dominated their heat and posted the overall top time of the morning session with 3:41.51 from Hannah Peiffer (55.62), Daria Talanova (1:02.66), Georgia DaCruz (53.27), and Kyrie Dobson (49.96). Cal Baptist was second in the heat. Wingate won the following heat with 3:43.12, out-touching Wayne State and Fresno Pacific.
Drury won the final heat in 3:41.60. The Panthers had led by a couple of body lengths throughout, but Nova S’eastern’s Wahlstrom nearly ran them down, splitting 49.51 and qualifying third overall with 3:42.66.
