Men’s Ups/Downs
NYU had a terrific morning on Day Three of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships, adding 31 points over their seedings and posing a real threat to Washington University for fifth place in the team race. Wash U did pretty well, too, adding B finalists in the 200 fly and 100 back. Williams had an unexpected second swimmer in the A final of the 100 back, challenging MIT for seventh place, which is now possible after a devastating DQ for the Engineers’ free relay yesterday. NYU led the morning with 4 A finalists; Emory had 3. Emory still looks good for the team title on Saturday. While Emory suffered a decided lack of finalists in three events yesterday, they have made up for their holes with outstanding relays and, frankly, some luck, as some of their challengers have had a difficult time taking advantage of the openings.
