Virginia Gators 15-16 200 Medley Relay Breaks a SwimMAC NAG Record

At the 2017 ISCA Dolfin Cup in Clearwater, Florida, the quartet from the Virginia Gators combined for a new girls 15-16 NAG record in the 200 medley relay. The team of Emma MuzzyCaroline KulpOlivia Bray, and Whittney Hamilton swam a time of 1:39.21, getting under the old record, a 1:39.61 from December of 2013. Notably, recent NCAA triple champion Kathleen Baker led off that relay, and all four girls from that relay swim for D1 programs now.

Live results from this meet are on Meet Mobile, under ‘2017 Dolfin ISCA Junior National Championship Cup.’

SPLITS

SwimMAC (OLD RECORD) Gators (NEW RECORD)
Kathleen Baker (24.74) Emma Muzzy (24.97)
Caitlin Casazza (28.94) Caroline Kulp (28.86)
Alyssa Marsh (23.76) Olivia Bray (23.15)
Nora McCullagh (22.17) Whittney Hamilton (22.23)
TOTAL:  1:39.61  1:39.21

15-year-old Bray was the key leg here, going six tenths faster than Marsh did on that relay back in 2013. Hamilton, meanwhile, swam well above and beyond her flat start best time (23.08) for a huge anchor leg for the Gators.

Their final time of 1:39.21 is also faster than the 17-18 NAG relay record of 1:39.40, also a SwimMAC record. The 15-18 record, meanwhile, is a 1:38.84. That time was done recently by a relay from Fort Collins Area Swim Team.

Eh they are from all over. Virginia Gators isn’t in one area. Well maybe these girls are, I dunno. But they have practice sites spread out around Virginia

The main site is Roanoke. All of those girls are from Roanoke and trained by Doug Fonder. It is an outstanding group!
