Schooling on Post-Olympics: “I didn’t swim first semester” (Video)

Caeleb Dressel got the Gators off to a brilliant start in 18.23, tying the 2nd fastest 50 free performance of all time. The Gators led until the final 50, but Texas’ Joseph Schooling busted out an 18.34 to win it for the Longhorns. Schooling teamed up with Brett Ringgold (leadoff- 18.96), Jack Conger (18.37), and Tate Jackson (18.92) as they finished in 1:14.59. That was Ringgold’s first time under 19 from a flat start, as his previous best was a 19.07.

NC State got a blistering 18.63 leadoff from Ryan Held, but Cal was able to run them down , as Matt Josa anchored in 18.92 to Scott Johnson‘s 19.57.

In the full interview he says NC State aren’t their favorite team. Love it. Gets really old hearing the same “they’re a great team, great group of guys, it’s an honor to race them” yada yada.

I think they are good friend, Schooling’s instagram showed them went to a lot of places, hang out together. They also posed their Olympics ring tattoo together after they went back to Texas.

Schooling is pretty intense, that’s for sure. He seemed angry when Jack went faster in prelims last year in the 200 fly. That’s just the type of guy Schooling is. And, it’s probably why he’s also a gold medalist.

He’s lived in the US for quite a while. And English is considered a first language in Singapore.
