Lauren Stiger Moves Commitment to University of Nevada from UND

Lauren Stigler, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has announced her intention to swim for the University of Nevada beginning with the 2017-18 season. Stigler had committed last fall to the University of North Dakota, but with the recent decision by the UND Athletic Department to eliminate men’s and women’s swimming and diving, Stigler sought a new home for her talents.

“I chose The University of Nevada because it felt like a home away from home. The coaches and staff were all so welcoming. Coach Brendan is at the start of an improving program and I want to be apart [sic] of that. The campus at Nevada is so beautiful with mountain views, the facilities are amazing, and the team is wonderful. The girls were so close knit and I felt that immediately which is what I was looking for. I cannot wait to see what my future and swimming career holds at Nevada! Go pack!”

The Nevada Wolfpack will be getting an even better swimmer than the one who first committed to UND. Stigler has improved in all her main events since last fall, and in some it has been dramatic. The last time we reported on her, Stigler had won the 100 breast and finished sixth in the 200 IM at the 2015 WIAA Girls Division 1 State Meet. As a senior at the 2016 Wisconsin state high school meet, she finished second in the breast but with a time that was a half-second faster (1:02.40 vs 1:02.97) and took sixth in the 100 fly (56.81).

Swimming for Southwest Aquatic Team, Stigler wrapped up her short course season in March at the NASA Junior National Cup, where she placed ninth on the women’s open high-point list, having scored 38 points in the 50 breast (2nd), 100 breast (2nd), 200 breast (2nd), 50 fly (9th), 100 fly (10th), and 100 IM (3rd).

Stigler’s top SCY times include:

  • 50 breast – 28.42
  • 100 breast – 1:02.00
  • 200 breast – 2:14.79
  • 100 IM – 57.21
  • 200 IM – 2:04.99
  • 50 fly – 25.94
  • 100 fly – 56.21

“Everything happens for a reason. I am so glad to have found my new home & I am so beyond excited for my future !!” -Lauren Stigler
