Winter Juniors Qualifier Deanne Umbay Commits to Brown

Deanne Umbay of North Hills, California plans to swim for Brown University, joining Han Nguyen, Taylor Seaman, and Tory Center in the class of 2021. Umbay is a two-time USA Scholastic All-America Team member from Sierra Canyon High School. Representing the Trailblazers at the 2016 CIF-Southern Section Division III Championships, Umbay was runner-up in both the 200 IM (2:08.21) and 100 back (57.69). She led off the 200 free relay in 24.82 and swam breast (30.39) on the medley relay.

Umbay also swims for Canyons Aquatic Club. She won both the 100 fly and 200 IM at the Southern California Swimming Winter Age Group Championships, contributing to Canyons’ second-place team finish. She is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100 back, both in SCY and in LCM. She lowered her personal best in the 100y back at the Carlsbad Sectionals in March, going 55.98.

Umbay’s top SCY times are:

  • 50 back – 26.65
  • 100 back – 55.98
  • 200 back – 2:03.58
  • 50 fly – 27.97
  • 100 fly – 56.27
  • 200 fly – 2:04.64
  • 200 IM – 2:05.00
