With former swimming federation president Coaracy Nunes embroiled in a slew of fraud and embezzlement allegations, Brazil has named Ricardo Prado as the new “general coordinator of sports” for its aquatics federation.
Nunes was removed from his post along with several other high-ranking officials as allegations swirled about overbilling and financial fraud within the CBDA, the national governing body for all aquatic sports in Brazil. Nunes claims the allegations are a political tactic to hurt his chances for reelection this coming year. Nunes has been heading the federation since 1988.
BestSwim.br and Globo.com both report that Prado will take over as the head of the CBDA until the upcoming election. Prado was a silver medalist in the 400 IM at the 1984 Olympics for Brazil.
Meanwhile in another tidbit of Brazilian news: Olympic icons Cesar Cielo, Thiago Pereira and Gustavo Borges met with the president of the nation’s post office this week after the post office decided to end its 26-year sponsorship agreement with the CBDA. The CBDA has lost several major sponsors over the past year as the federation has come under fire with those allegations of corruption.
