Kentucky Swimming Takes Home 5 Awards At The 2017 Catspys

The University of Kentucky Swim Team took home a slew of awards at the 2017 Catspys. The Catspys are an annual awards ceremony that recognizes the academic and athletics achievements of the members of the University of Kentucky athletics department.

The Kentucky Wildcat women’s team won the Catspy award for Female Team of the Year. They had 8 swimmers that were All-Americans in 9 different events.

Head coach Lars Jorgensen was one of four coaches to win Coach of the Year honors. Jorgensen led the Kentucky women to a third place finish at the 2017 SEC Championships. The men finished in 8th at SECs. The women also had a tremendous NCAAs and finished in 14th with 106 points.

Danielle Galyer, won both the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Miss Wildcat Award. According to Kentucky’s website, the Miss Wildcat Award, “dedicated in honor of the late Bruno Agostinelli, a UK men’s tennis All-American and past Mr. Wildcat winner – are given for all-around excellence in athletics, academics, character and service.” Galyer has won this award for the past two years and has also won the NCAA’s Elite 90 Academic Award in consecutive years. In the pool, she was a national champion and all american during her career at Kentucky.

Men’s swimmer Sean Gunn won the Community Service Award. Gunn is a senior from Zimbabwe who competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
