Gerry Cournoyer has announced the appointment of rising seniors
Stefi Geiger,
Kira Hancock, and
Kelly Lennon as captains for the 2017-18 season. The trio replaces
Molly Condron,
Abby Holmquist, and
Ali McClure, who served in the role this past season.
“I am looking forward to working with these three strong young women next season,” said Cournoyer. “They each complement each other and I feel that they will continue to lead the Catamount program in the right direction.”
Geiger placed 12th in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle and was 14th in the 200 fly at the 2017 America East Championships. She set a personal record in the 100 free at the conference meet after posting new personal-best marks in three events at the 2016 America East Championships.
Hancock helped Vermont defend its America East title in the 200 freestyle relay with a new varsity record time of 1:33.31 in Worcester. She was also top-10 individually in the 100 back (fourth), 50 free (eighth), and 100 free (10th), helping UVM post a new program record point total for third place overall.
Lennon was an America East All-Conference performer in the 500 freestyle this past season, finishing third overall. She was also sixth in the 1650 free with a new personal record and placed eighth in the 200 free. Lennon was later named to the America East All-Academic Team for the first time in her career.
The Catamounts finished the 2016-17 season with a 6-1 overall record, posting a record of .500 or better for the 13th straight season under Cournoyer. UVM will open the 2017-18 campaign in October
