Cornell Men Announce Brenneman & Evdokimov As 2017-18 Captains

The Cornell Big Red Men’s Swim and Dive Team has announced two captains for the upcoming season in seniors Jack Brenneman and Ilya Evdokimov who will lead the Big Red for the 2017 – 2018 campaign.  This is Brenneman’s second season serving as captain, having led the team this past season alongside graduating seniors Luke Reisch and David Zurmuhl.

Brenneman is a rising senior from Mechanicsburg, PA who is majoring in Mechanical Engineering in Cornell’s College of Engineering.  He is the Cornell record holder in the 50 freestyle as well as on the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay.  Head Coach Wes Newman describes Brenneman as, “A leader on this team since the moment he arrived as a freshman.  His strong work ethic and discipline make him an ideal captain, and someone his teammates look up to.  He will do a great job leading this team through his senior year.”

Evdokimov is a rising senior from Coral Springs, FL who is majoring in Biology in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences.  He is a three-time honorable mention All-America recipient in the breaststroke events and holds the Cornell and Ivy League record in the 100 breaststroke and the Cornell and Ivy League meet record in the 200 breaststroke.  He also holds team records in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, and 400 free relay.  Head Coach Wes Newman commented on Evdokimov, saying “The level at which Ilya performs in high-pressure situations lifts the team up in a way that only he can.  Ilya earns his success at practice and has an ability to focus daily at workouts which has rubbed off on many of his teammates.  Together with Jack, Ilya will be able to steer the Big Red in a great direction next season.”

With only 4 graduating seniors and 11 incoming freshmen, the Big Red will look to their strong group of seniors, including captains Brenneman and Evdokimov, to continue to ride the wave of improvement and success the team has recently seen.
