The 2017 French Elite Long Course Nationals continued tonight in Strasbourg with day 4 finals. Swiss IMer Jeremy Desplanches once again made headlines as he landed on top of the podium. After winning the 400 IM title with a new Swiss Record earlier in the meet, he completed his sweep of the IM golds in day 4 finals.
Desplanches obliterated the field, clocking a 1:57.40 to finish 5 seconds ahead of anyone else in the championship heat. He was nearly a full second under his own former Swiss Record, which stood at a 1:58.31 done at a meet in Amiens last month. His splits were faster all around, but the biggest difference came on the fly leg, where he was nearly 4 full tenths faster tonight than he was in Amiens.

Fabrice Pellerin is really a great great great coach.
And the couple Desplanches/Bonnet is on fire. Love, love, love….
I don’t understand why more swimmers don’t train with Fabrice in Nice?

Some call him the magician.
He has transformed the late Camille Muffat from a decent IMer into a 400 free olympic champion.
He has built Yannick Agnel and made him a 200 free olympic champion in 1.43.15.
Lotte Friis has had her best year under his coaching in 2013 with 2 world silvers very close to KL in 8.16 and 15.38.
Charlotte Bonnet has improved slowly but surely and is now among the best freestylers in the world. Since Jérémy Desplanches trains in Nice he has reached a world-class level.
I believe that Fabrice Pellerin is focusing a lot on technique and also on the mental aspect.
And it pays off.
Worth noting that Camille Muffat was a very good junior freestyler. 55mid 100fr back in 2005 as a 15/16yo, equivalent to say a 54mid for a junior now? Pretty sharp.
steady progression since his junior years, he was an OK junior for Swiss level (finals at junior europeans) but he continued to improve, first in Geneva, then he moved to Nice with Fabrice Pellerin where he entered international top level. Would be exciting to see him perform at his best at Worlds, he was already semis at the Olympics and Worlds, so final could be the next step
This guy is turning into someone to watch ? out for.
Yeah. He just keeps knocking chunks off of his times. 1:57 is really legit in a post-Phelps, post-Lochte-peak world – Hagino is the only one who’s appreciably ahead of that with his 1:55.0 PB, the next tier is 1:56-mid to 1:57-low.
Pereira is out also so only hagino was 1:55 of the current swimmers I think.

No one forgot Kalisz. Both are roughly the same speed and are solid medal contenders, and both are well behind Hagino.
