Rollins College Adds 18 Recruits To 2017-18 Season

Heading into his second season at the helm of the Rollins swim programs, head coach Kyle Berg has announced the impending arrival of 18 soon-to-be Rollins student-athletes.

The new faces, who will take to Alfond Pool for the 2017-18 swim season, hail from 10 different states, and four separate countries.

The group will look to improve on what was a banner year for the Tars in 2016-17. The team saw seven school records fall, and -for the first time in program history -sent two swimmers to the NCAA Championships.

Berg said of the incoming class, “Our team worked hard to find incredible student-athletes from all over the world. These men and women represent the incredibly bright future for the Rollins Swimming family. We will empower our student-athletes to become leaders and pursue success in the pool, classroom, and life.”

Chase Bales Benton | Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
Chase is a product of the Providence School, where he is the school record holder in the 100 Butterfly. He plans to study business at Rollins, with hopes of becoming a medical sales recruiter. He chose Rollins because it is an excellent school, and the swim team is moving in a positive direction. He will also hope to find time to paddleboard on Lake Virginia while at Rollins.

Hannah Brockman | St. Petersburg, Fla.
Hannah attended Shorecrest Preparatory School where she was a four-year member of the varsity swim team. She competed in every event over her time at the school, qualifying for the state championship three times, and she holds school records in multiple events. She led the team to four district championships. Hannah also swam with St. Petersburg Aquatics, a USA Silver Medal Club. She plans on studying biology and English, and chose Rollins because she liked the area, and the small class sizes.

Rachel Daniel, Belcamp, Md.
Rachel, a two-time participant in the Maryland LSC Senior Championships, swam with Retriever Aquatic Club, based out of Catonsville, Maryland. She chose Rollins because of the its academics, as well as the warm weather. Rachel plans on studying business management, with hopes of becoming the CEO of either Apple or Disney, with eventual eyes toward the White House. She also enjoys mime and crochet, and knows the words to every Disney song.

Jason Stuart Heishman | Charlotte, N.C.
Jason graduated from South Mecklenburg High School where he was a four-time qualifier for the state championships in the breast stroke, while also serving as a team captain. He led Mecklenburg to three state championships. He also swam club with Aquatic Team of Mecklenburg. He chose Rollins because of the small class sizes, and the chance to swim at an NCAA level. He hopes to study biology, with aspirations of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Jason also enjoys playing the guitar, scuba diving, fishing, and longboarding.

Eric William Jaffe | Satellite Beach, Fla.
Eric attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy where he was a three-time team captain, and four-time team Most Valuable Player, on his way to setting two school records. He also swam competitively with the Brevard Swim Club. He chose Rollins because of the academic reputation, the small class sizes, the campus, and the swim team. Eric hopes to study biology and business on his way to becoming a neurosurgeon. He also participates in Tae Kwon Do, plays the trumpet, and is interested in zoology.

Harrison Loew | Asheville, N.C.
Harrison attended TC Roberson High School where he was a conference champion in both the 100 and 200 Freestyle events, helping lead his team to a state championship. Harrison is also part of a relay team that holds the 200 Freestyle school record. He swam for Ashville Swim Club. He chose Rollins because of the individuality of the curriculum, and to have a chance to swim in college. He hopes to study international business, economics, and German, with aspirations to working in the financial sector. Harrison has started his own small business, and a charity that helps under privileged children in need of orthodontic help.

Kyle Major | Annandale, Va.
Kyle attended Falls Church High School where he had an accomplished high school career. He was named the Most Valuable Player for the swim team, with four school records, and one conference record. He is a conference champion in two events, and was a medalist at the state championship. He also swims competitively with Machine Aquatics, helping them to an Eastern Zone Sectional Final. He chose Rollins for the liberal arts education, the campus, and the community feel. Kyle plans on studying Computer Science and Music.

Jamie Mans | Louisville, Ky.
Jamie attended Ballard High School where she was honored with the Legacy Award, and was named her team’s Most Valuable Player twice. She also swam with Lakeside Swim Team. She spent her freshman year swimming at Quincy University, where she helped lead the Hawks to a sixth place finish in the GLVC Championships. Jaimie plans to study communications, and aspires to be a journalist. She chose Rollins because of the team environment and the beautiful campus, she feels Rollins will give her the opportunity to accomplish a lot.

Asael Marvel | Long Beach, Calif.
Asa comes to Rollins after graduating from Los Alamitos High School. He was a two-time captain of the high school swim team, during a tenure that saw him garner multiple athletic and academic accolades. He also swims competitively with Seal Beach Swim Club, for which he holds multiple club records. Asa comes to Rollins as a Dean’s Scholar and will be part of the Honors program. He hopes to major in Political Science and Business, with eyes toward law school after his graduation. He also enjoys lifeguarding, and has competed in several Stud Iron Man Competitions.

Alex Norcini | Lilburn, Ga.
Alex attended Parkview High School, where he was an accomplished swimmer. With the Panthers he won the Coach’s Award, the Sportsmanship Award, and was named the Most Valuable Swimmer. With his club Gwinnett Aquatics Alex was a four-time team record holder, a four-time junior national qualifier, and a Scholastic All-American. He chose Rollins for the wonderful atmosphere, and while he is undecided on a major, he has a passion for coaching, and might want to pursue that as a career.

Darrelle Pawley | Melbourne, Fla.
Darrelle graduated from Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, where she was part of two record setting relay teams, and a regional qualifier. She swims club with Space Coast Aquatics and ROCOA. She chose Rollins because she fell in love with the feeling she got on campus, and  can not wait to begin swimming in college. She plans to major in education, with hopes of one day opening a nursery. Darrelle also enjoys a number of other outdoor activities including rock climbing and wake boarding.

Susanne Reeg | Halle, Germany
Susanne swam club with SSV70 Halle Neustadt before attending Catawba College for her freshman campaign. With the Indians she helped set a school record in the 200 Medley. She chose to come to Rollins because of the academics, the campus, and the kindness of the community. Susanne will be studying international business, and hopes to attend graduate school after receiving her undergraduate degree. She also enjoys snowboarding and ice-skating.

Juliana Rubio | Roswell, Ga.
Julia attended Roswell High School where she was a four-year letter winner with the swim team. She was a four-time state finalist, and was part of a team that holds the school record in the 200 medley relay. Julia also swam with Dynamo Swim Club. She remains undecided on her major.

Daniel Sulkowski | Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Dan comes to Winter Park from Wando High School, where he was a four-year letter winner, and won a state championship as a senior. With his club team, South Carolina Swim Club, he is a two-time state record holder, a four-time all-state swimmer, state champion, and a national qualifier. Dan chose Rollins to help build a team. While here he plans on studying biology and Spanish, with aspirations to attend medical school and become a pediatrician. He also enjoys fishing and going to the beach.

Maya Thompson | Nassau, Bahamas
Maya comes to Rollins from the Emma Willard School, where she holds six school records. She was also a division champion in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle. She also won the Emma Willard School Coaches Award and was a Best All-Around Swimmer Nominee. She swam with the Bahamian National Team, USAM Swim Team, and Alpha Aquatics. She plans on majoring in international relations and business management, with hopes of returning to the Bahamas to help with the country’s development. Rollins, she believes, gives her the opportunity to be her best self, both in and out of the pool.

Paul Tobin | Honeoye Falls, N.Y.
Paul Tobin graduated from Honeoye Falls Lima High School. He was an All-Greater Rochester Area performer, and holds two section records. He led his high school team to two state championships. Paul then attended Indian River State College where me was part of a NJCAA national championship squad. He chose to become a Tar because he likes the direction of the swim program, and academic environment at Rollins. He hopes to major in marine biology. Paul also enjoys fishing, hiking, running, and basketball.

Macy McNally Trattner | Hudson, Ohio
Macy attended Hudson High School, where she was a decorated swimmer. She was named All-Conference, All-State, and All-American four times during her high school career, and owns four school records, helping lead Hudson to four straight undefeated seasons, and a top-10 state championship finish. She also swims with Hudson Explorers Aquatic Team, helping them to a Lake Erie Senior Championship. She chose Rollins for the small class sizes, the beautiful campus, and the chance to swim, while remaining a part of the campus community. Macy plans to study business management, but also enjoys lacrosse, photography, cooking, shopping, and volunteering.

Elliot James Mackenzie Wylie | St. Albans, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom
Elliot comes to Rollins after attending Beaumont School. He swam with the Hatfield Swimming Club. There he was a four-time regional qualifier, and a three-time regional finalist. He also was twice a ASA National Qualifier, and once an ASA National Finalist. He chose Rollins for the great academics, as well as the campus, and weather. Elliot hopes to major in economics, and eventually work as an investment banker. Outside of the pool he also enjoys movies and TV, video games, music, and sports.
