The Yale Bulldogs will be adding a new member to their coaching staff for the 2017-18 season, as they’ve just announced the hiring of Kyle Schack as Associate Head Coach. Schack is originally from Huntington Woods, Michigan. He graduated from Union College in with a bachelor’s degree in economics before earning his master’s in business administration at West Virginia.
Prior to landing the coaching job at Yale, Schack has had experience coaching college swimmers at a handful of top-level universities. He started his coaching career with stints as an assistant coach for the Harvard Crimson, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Texas Longhorns. Following his time with Texas, Schack was named assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Arizona State Sun Devils, where he primarily coached the distance swimmers. In 2009, he was hired as an assistant at Northwestern, and eventully elevated to Associate Head Coach of the program.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Schack has also been the Head Coach of Crimson Aquatics for the last 5 years. He also gained experience as a staff member of the 2007 USA Swimming Zone Select Camp.

Anyone know what the story is with the new aquatic facility that Yale wants to build? It looks like they are hoping some alum will come up with a multi-million dollar donation for naming rights. Yale has a endowment of at least $15 billion….. It’s not like they don’t have the cash to build it right now.
There seems to be a general misunderstanding as to what university endowments are and what they can be invested in. At an institution like Yale, where academics are the highest priority and where financial aid is top tier, dropping a cool 50 mil on a pool may seem contrary to the school’s mission, especially to the endowment’s donors.
Beyond that there is still the big issue of where the pool would go. Most of the alumni who support the building of a new pool are former members of the Swim and Dive teams, and as such they are staunchly against the demolition of the historic Kiphuth Exhibition Pool to make space for the new pool. You understand that the point of an endowment is not to touch that money, but to use the interest to finance university expenses, right?
Also a lot of that money is probably in a general fund that is restricted to academic uses.
If I’m not mistaken, he’s also spent time at Northwestern.
