Hungarian iron lady Katinka Hosszu has scratched the 100 back final, an event in which she’s the reigning Olympic champion, after qualifying 2nd through prelims with a 58.80. Hosszu will be competing in tonight’s 200 IM final for a chance to defend her title in front of the home crowd. this scratch gives her a chance to be fresh for that event tonight, as swimming in the 100 back semis would’ve given her just the men’s 200 free to recover before turning around and swimming the 200 IM.
Even with the scratch tonight, Hosszu still has a pretty loaded schedule for this meet. Individually, she’ll be competing in the 400 IM, 200 free, 200 fly, and 200 back after today. She’ll also likely be a staple of multiple Hungarian relays since she’s their top female swimmer in so many events. Her potential relay roles include legs on the mixed 400 medley relay, women’s 800 free relay, mixed 400 free relay, and women’s 400 medley relay.
Very smart decision. Masse looks unbeatable. 200 IM/400 IM/200 back are well enough for her.
Masse unbeatable? Maybe you’re talking about “by Hosszu” but Seebohm and Baker definitely aren’t that big of longshots to win.
If to follow your logic of being smart instead of being “iron” then why to stay with 200free. Or you believe that Coleman and McKeon are beatable despite they show great form at 100free yesterday. Not to mention Ledecky who maybe not in 2016 from but still 1:54 swimmer.
Find another arguments for your “enough” logic.
Scratchin’ so Kylie won’t give her da bizniss in that final amiright?
Interesting considering her chances of winning or at least medaling are higher than the 200 fly/free, but understand from the standpoint of being fresh for the 200 im.
