21-year-old Kirill Prigoda became the first Russian man ever under 27 seconds in the 50 breast during the third day of prelims at the 2017 World Championships.
Prigoda clocked in at 26.91, lowering his own Russian mark of 27.12 set at the National Championships earlier this year. That swim broke the 2016 record of Andrey Nikolaev (27.14).
The 3x Short Course World champion (all relays) is coming off a big swim in the 100 breast to start off the meet, lowering the national record in all three rounds to ultimately win the bronze medal in a time of 59.05.
Prigoda also becomes the 10th fastest performer in history, and heads into the semi-finals seeded 5th.
