Cleveland State University men’s and women’s swimming & diving head coach Paul Graham announced the programs’ 2017-18 schedules Monday morning, highlighted by the programs hosting the Horizon League Championships at the end of the season.
For the second straight year, CSU will begin the season by competing at the Colgate Fall Classic. The two-day event begins Friday, Oct. 6.
The first dual action of the season will take place about two weeks lateragainst different schools on back-to-back days. Cleveland State will compete at Xavier Thursday, Oct. 19, and at Cincinnati Friday, Oct. 20.
Cleveland State will compete at home for the first time in 2017-18 on the first weekend of November. The Vikings men will host Green Bay in a two-day dual while the women welcome Marshall in addition to hosting the Phoenix.
The programs will remain at home two weeks later to host the sixth annual Magnus Cup. The three-day event, which begins Nov. 17 this season, welcomed a record number of teams last year on both the men’s and women’s sides. The CSU men won the Magnus Cup for the fourth time in the five years of the event with over 1,600 points last season.
The only competition for the teams in December will be a dual meet at Ashland Saturday, Dec. 9.
Cleveland State will host a trio of Horizon League schools on the second weekend of January. UIC and League newcomer IUPUI will be in for two days of action while Wright State will participate in Cleveland on only the second day of competition, Jan. 13.
More Horizon League dual action awaits for both teams two weeks laterwith a trip to Oakland Saturday, Jan. 27.
The women’s program will contest two more duals on the opening weekend of February, traveling to Youngstown State Feb. 2 and Buffalo Feb. 3.
The teams will have a final chance to prepare for the League meet with a two-day meet at Ohio State Feb. 10-11.
Cleveland State will have the benefit of familiar surroundings as it hosts the League Championships Feb. 21-24. It will be the 11th time that Cleveland has hosted the Horizon League men’s meet and the 10th such occasion for the women. The four-day championship event will see finals start at 5:30 p.m. all four days.
